Connecting people to nature through art
Art is one of my favorite methods for connecting with nature. Every time I draw something in the field, I'm forced to pause and truly study it- often more critically than if I were to approach it solely as a scientist. It is also an excellent method of teaching. You can convey so much information quickly in an image, and they can really stick with a person.

Most of my work has been done using acrylic paints, colored pencil, or pen and ink. While I was working on my thesis I had very little time for large pieces of art (shocking!) and spent a lot of time working in sketchbooks. Now that I have more time, I'm beginning to grow my skills with watercolor. I have also begun working on several scientific illustration projects, and am looking forward to exploring that field more in the future.
